Zbur Announces New California Rare Disease Caucus Leadership
Zbur Takes Helm of California Rare Disease Caucus with New Leadership Team
Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur (D-Hollywood) has been named Chair of the California Rare Disease Caucus, succeeding former Chair Assemblymember Brian Maienschein (D-San Diego). Joining Zbur in leadership roles are Vice Chairs Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) and State Senator Catherine Blakespear (D-Encinitas). Established in 2017, the caucus is dedicated to advocating for Californians impacted by rare diseases by fostering legislative awareness, advancing research, and improving access to care.
Zbur, inspired by his late sister Jackie’s battle with ALS, highlighted the caucus’s commitment to ensuring rare disease patients have a voice in shaping impactful policies. Vice Chairs Dixon and Blakespear echoed his sentiments, emphasizing the importance of innovation, advocacy, and raising awareness to support patients and their families.
California Life Sciences CEO Mike Guerra affirmed the organization’s support for the caucus, acknowledging California's critical role in developing therapies and policies that improve lives globally.
